Acne treatment - how can this service help?
This service provides a fast and convenient way to have your acne assessed by a doctor with expertise in managing patients with acne. If our doctors think you could benefit from acne treatment, you'll then be able to request and pay for the acne medicines that our doctors think are appropriate. We can then send you the treatment in the post using Royal Mail Special Delivery.
What acne treatments are available through this service?
DrThom can prescribe a number of prescription only medicines used to treat acne. The treatment will depend upon the severity of your acne. Treatments we can prescribe and send you include a retinoid gel, an antibiotic lotion, oral antibiotic tablets or, for some women, the oral contraceptive pill.
How does the service work?
To use the service follow the following simple steps:

  • Step one: register online, answer our short acne questionnaire, make payment, and use the token we unhide to upload two digital photographs.
  • Step two: Log back on to see what our doctors advise and purchase the recommended treatment. Sign for the medicines upon delivery and take as instructed.
  • Step three: return to purchase ongoing treatment and to have a doctor review your acne for free.
How quickly will a doctor complete the assessment?
Our doctors aim to complete your assessment within one working day of you uploading your photographs.
How much do the acne treatments cost?
The cost of the treatment we can prescribe is not included in the £8.50 charged to assess your acne and the cost of the treatments ranges from £35 to £48 and typically last three months. If you receive treatment from DrThom you can benefit from free ongoing online reviews of your acne.
What are the best kind of photographs to upload?
It is best to provide one general photograph of the part of your skin that is most affected by acne and one close up photograph of the skin in that area. Use good lighting and avoid using a flash. It may be helpful if someone else takes the photographs for you.
How good do the photographs have to be?
The quality of the photograph is crucial for our doctors to be able to assess your acne effectively. If you are using the camera on a mobile telephone, you must make sure that the resolution is at least 3.0 megapixels. Most digital cameras are able to take a picture of sufficient quality.
What file format do the photographs need to be saved in?
You need to upload your photographs as jpeg files.
Will I have to sign for any treatments that are delivered?
Yes. Someone will need to sign for any medicines that are delivered, but it doesn't have to be you who signs for them. All treatments are dispatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery.
How old do I have to be to use this service?
You need to be aged 16 and over to use this service.
