Propecia hairloss treatment - how we can help
This treatment service aims to help men who wish to stop or reverse their hairloss by making it convenient to obtain the prescription only medicine Propecia. The service is only suitable for men who have what is called 'male pattern baldness'.
How the service works
Register online and fill in the hairloss questionnaire. You will then need to make payment online using a valid debit or credit card. If it's appropriate to do so, one of our doctors will then send you the treatment using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Someone will need to sign for the medicine when it arrives. If our doctors decide that it is not appropriate to prescribe Propecia, we will make a full refund within one working day.
How to take Propecia
Take one Propecia tablet once a day on an ongoing basis. If the Propecia appears to be working and you stop taking it, your hair-loss will most probably start again.
Effectiveness of Propecia
Evidence suggests that around two thirds of men who take Propecia to treat male-pattern baldness will benefit from renewed hair growth. Propecia should stop further hair-loss in the remaining third of men who take it. It normally takes three to six months of taking Propecia before any effect is seen, and the balding process will normally resume if you stop taking Propecia.
Possible side-effects of Propecia
Noticeable side-effects from taking Propecia are uncommon, but sometimes Propecia can cause a rash. A small proportion of men may experience reduced libido (sex drive), erection problems or breast tenderness.
Alternative treatment options
There are two types of hair-loss medicine. Aside from Propecia, the oral hair-loss medicine that our doctors can prescribe, there is also a lotion that sometimes works. The lotion needs to be applied directly to the scalp once a day. Studies suggest that the lotion is not as effective as Propecia. However, should you wish to try the lotion, it is available to buy at most pharmacies.
Who should not take Propecia
Men who are not experiencing baldness should not attempt to use this service. This service is not suitable for women.
