Herpes anesthetic ointment - how we can help you
This confidential service is for people who already know that they suffer from herpes and want lidocaine 5% ointment to relieve the symptoms of a herpes outbreak. The purpose of the ointment is to alleviate the symptoms of an outbreak. The ointment does not reduce the duration of an outbreak.
How the service works
Register online and fill in the questionnaire. If it's appropriate to do so, one of our doctors will then send you the lidocaine 5% ointment and send it to you using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Someone will need to sign for it when it arrives.
When to apply lidocaine 5% ointment
Use the lidocaine ointment when a genital herpes outbreak causes you discomfort. The purpose of the ointment is to alleviate the symptoms of an outbreak. The ointment does not reduce the duration of an outbreak.
Potential side-effects
Like any medicine, Lidocaine 5% ointment can cause an allergic rash. Sometimes it can make the area it is applied to extra sensitive. For a full list of some of the rarer side-effects please consult the leaflet accompanying the medicine.
Patients who are unsuitable for this service
If you can't recognise the symptoms of a herpes outbreak, the lidocaine 5% ointment is unlikely to be of great use. You also shouldn't use this ointment if you already know that you are allergic to lidocaine.
