NSU treatment - how we can help you
This confidential service is only for patients who've been told that they have NSU (non specific urethritis), men who've
had NSU in the past and recognise the symptoms, and partners of men who've been diagnosed with NSU. If there's any doubt as
to the cause of your symptoms, have a postal test before requesting NSU treatment.
How the service works
Register online and fill in the questionnaire. If it's safe to do so, one of our doctors will then send you the
treatment. We'll normally dispatch your treatment next working day. You'll need to sign for it when it arrives.
How to take it
This NSU treatment comes as tablets that you take every day for seven days. We also offer a single dose NSU treatment
that you take on just one day as a single dose.
Potential side-effects
Like any medication, this antibiotic can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or an allergic rash. This treatment is known
to increase your skin's sensitivity to bright sunlight. This treatment can (rarely) cause liver damage or blood clotting
disorders.
Efficacy
NSU is a term that describes symptoms and not a specific infection. The treatment offered here should, if taken
properly, be effective against the most common causes of NSU. But this treatment won't be effective against all causes of
NSU. Indeed, NSU sometimes isn't cause by any infection at all and is simply caused by overly vigourous masterbation or
energetic sex.
Unsuitable patients
You shouldn't request this treatment if you're allergic to doxycycline. You shouldn't request this treatment without a
face to face consultation if you suffer from liver or kidney disease. You should be wary of taking this treatment if you're
likely to be exposed to strong sunlight when taking it.
Sex after treatment
You must refrain from having unprotected (no condom) sex for at least seven days after you have completed this course of
NSU treatment.
