Statement of Purpose
DrThom's aims and objectives
DrThom aims to make it easier for our patients to look after aspects of their health by receiving healthcare online or in their local pharmacy. Whether patients need vaccinations, prescription only treatments or simply medical advice, DrThom and the pharmacies DrThom is working with can help.
IMA registration and working with pharmacy
DrThom's registration with the Care Quality Commission as an Independent Medical Agency enables DrThom to work in partnership with pharmacies to provide services that are based on Patient Group Directions and/or remote presscribing. DrThom was the first online medical service in the UK to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This means that DrThom has been assessed to comply with the Care Standards Act 2000.
Registered as Expert Health Limited
DrThom is registered under the name Expert Health Limited as an 'Independent Medical Agency' or 'IMA'. Our registration number is E010000570. Details of the Care Quality Commission are Care Quality Commission, Finsbury Tower, 103-105 Bunhill Row, London EC1Y 8TG; switchboard 0207 448 9200. Because DrThom is registered as an IMA, DrThom has built expertise in writing PGDs for use in pharmacy chains throughout England and Wales.Registered manager
From a regulatory perspective, DrThom's registered manager is Dr Thomas Van Every. Dr Van Every is DrThom's Medical Director and is a registered UK doctor who works at the Genito-urinary Medicine (GUM) Department at London's Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. Doctors' qualifications
As of December 2009, five doctors are trained to manage DrThom's patients. All of these doctors formally operate under DrThom's regulatory umbrella. A number of our doctors have worked in NHS sexual health clinics. Two of our doctors are GPs with a special interest in sexual health. Our doctors are overseen by Dr Van Every. Dr Nneka Nwokolo, DrThom's Clinical Director, is a consultant in the GUM Department at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and is responsible for clinical audit. It is our policy that our doctors always volunteer their name and GMC number whenever they communicate with a patient online.
Organisational structure
DrThom is the trading name of Expert Health Limited. Expert Health is a UK registered company with registered address at 197-199 City Road, London EC1V 1JN, company registration number 4058287. Expert Health is fully owned by 28CVR Limited. 28CVR Limited is partially owned by Lloydspharmacy, a UK chain of 1,700 pharmacies.
Annual Patient Survey
DrThom encourages feedback on the DrThom service. This feedback is aggregated into our Annual Patient Survey that is then sent to the Care Quality Commission;Our most recent Annual Patient Survey is available upon request.
Complaints
DrThom has a written complaints policy and procedures. DrThom aims to respond to all formal written complaints within five working days of receipt. To lodge a formal complaint, you must write a letter to the Medical Director, Expert Health Limited, Ground Floor, 197-199 City Road, London EC1V 1JN. Anyone unhappy with the response that DrThom has made to a formal written complaint should contact the Care Quality Commission. Contact details for the Care Quality Commission are above. Confidentiality and Data Protection
DrThom has a legal obligation to comply with UK Data Protection legislation. DrThom is not allowed to pass patient information to third parties that are not involved in the DrThom service without the patient's explicit permission.
